The countdown is on for my upcoming cruise on the Disney Destiny and I am so excited! It has been a while since I last took a cruise though, so I am taking time to review packing lists and YouTube videos to make sure I have all the essentials. When you book your vacation with an Unlocking The Magic Travel advisor such as myself you get access to some pretty awesome packing lists and I am taking full advantage of those!
Luckily there are not too many things I needed to purchase as part of my packing prep, but I did pick up a few practical items (along with a couple just for fun) that I thought I’d share!
- Remedies for motion sickness: Historically, I haven’t had a serious issue with motion sickness, but I will admit the last time my husband and I cruised we were both a bit surprised by the amount of motion we felt even on very calm Caribbean waters. Since this isn’t something I regularly stock, I picked up Dramamine and Motion Patches just to make sure I’m prepared. Hopefully I won’t need them!
- Luggage tag holders: These came recommended by one of my favorite Disney YouTubers, Pixie Dusted Mom. These are designed to hold the paper luggage tags sent to you by DCL by sliding them into the plastic sleeve and attaching them to your luggage with the metal ring. It seems safer than just using the paper luggage tag by itself since it could rip or fall off more easily and worth the $13 for the added peace of mind!
- Poo-Pourri pocket spray: I love to carry on and how perfect are these TSA approved bathroom sprays? As beautiful and spacious as the staterooms on DCL are, it’s still relatively tight quarters on a cruise ship and it’s important to keep things smelling fresh!
- Travel size sunscreen: I’m low on last year’s sunscreen stock so I decided to re-purchase one of my favorites. This Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 70 sunscreen goes on easily, smells good and we’ll continue using it all summer long. I don’t know how true it is, but I read somewhere that sunscreen can be surprisingly hard to buy on the ship, so I plan to check into this and report back!
- Nautical themed Minnie ears: I couldn’t resist picking these up these cuties and I think they’ll be perfect for adding a little Disney flair to an otherwise basic outfit.
- Small mesh beach bag: Since I’ll be cruising without my children, I realized I am probably not going to need my big airplane tote full of everyone’s snacks, goggles, pool toys, etc… a rare occasion for any mom! This bag is definitely small, but I’m imagining it will be perfect to hold my book, phone and keycard and a few other little things and it takes up basically no space at all in my luggage. My tween will probably steal it afterwards.
- Trucker style hat: I love to wear this style hat for sun protection, and I’d been wearing my current one for the past two summers so it’s looking a little tired. I thought this one from Target (no longer available) was cute, the price was right and I love the color, of course.
- Athleta linen pants: Speaking of color, these spoke to me. They’re obviously not cruise specific, but my legs haven’t seen the light of day in 5+ months so I thought these would be a nice transition piece into the warmer temps. I haven’t actually received them yet so can’t speak to the quality and fit but I usually have good luck with this brand. You’ll know if (hopefully when) you see me wearing them on repeat this summer.
I think that’s it for now, friends! Thanks for reading and happy travels!
